Welcome to ISEMOA!

ISEMOA helps improving accessibility in European towns, cities, and regions

Mobility is an integral part of our lives – every day we are “mobile”: we may need to go to school or work, see the doctor or run errands – or might want to meet friends, visit a restaurant, a gym or cinema, or simply fancy a walk or cycle ride ... accessibility is about making these trips ... easily.

ISEMOA has designed a tool to help local and regional stakeholders improving the mobility for all citizens. The ISEMOA Quality Management System (ISEMOA QMS) is following a structured quality management approach based on a moderated audit process. This proven approach guided by an external ISEMOA auditor helps local and regional stakeholders to assess the level of accessibility of public space and public transport in their area, and it helps to develop strategies and measures for improving the current situation.

More than 200 qualified ISEMOA auditors all over Europe are trained to support and guide local and regional stakeholders with the implementation of the ISEMOA Quality Management System.

If your city or region is interested in implementing the ISEMOA Quality Management System, please contact an ISEMOA auditor in your area.

Improving accessibility brings about many benefits

Improving accessibility in your town, city or region through the ISEMOA methodology will bring about a lot of benefits both for individuals and for society:

  • Provide more independence for all citizens
  • Enhance social inclusion of Persons with Reduced Mobility (PRM)
  • Reveal cost savings (by avoiding the necessity of costly subsequent amendments and reconstructions)
  • enable everyone to use sustainable transport modes, contribute to less pollution and save energy
  • Improve service quality (for pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport users) and bring about facilities adapted to anyone's needs
  • Ensure that day-to-day services are also accessible for non-motorists

Investing in accessibility is a cost effective way of contributing to a sustainable economy and tackling the future challenges of demographic, economic and environmental changes.

How does ISEMOA benefit your local area?

  • Establish a comprehensive view of accessibility
  • Raise awareness regarding the importance of accessibility
  • Improve credibility, efficiency, and effectiveness of the work on improving accessibility
  • Identify strengths and weaknesses
  • Gain inspiration and new ideas for improving accessibility
  • Establish a structure of a systematic and effective approach for accessibility planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Establish a system of effective stakeholder involvement and communication

ISEMOA has proven to be equally beneficial for small municipalities as well as large cities or regions all over Europe, regardless of their level of experience working on accessibility.
